Regardless of the challenge on the horizon today there is a way out now.
As an aerobatic pilot spin training is imperative for survival because one never knows when an error in a maneuver could throw the plan into a spin. There are several types of spins and recovery is easy with the ability to recognize the spin and apply the right techniques. The same applies to any situation we may face in business, and the same technique applies.
The universal spin recovery technique for most airplanes and the largestnumber of spin types is called PARE. PARE is an acronym for the control movements needed to bring the plane out of the spin and your business out of financial fall out. You’ll recover easily and gain renewed confidence meeting any challenge the future holds for you when you learn to use this technique instinctively. That means it will take some repetition to learn it first then you can call upon it whenever it is needed.
Controls used by the pilot are, Power, Aileron, Rudder and Elevator. Each has a parallel for us in business. Power in business is what you are concentrating your energy and focus on. Ailerons in business are strategies being implemented to turn your business into a particular direction. A Rudder in business is the directional movements you are making toward a goal or objective. Elevator control in business directs the vision of your goal to grow or go slow.
Here’s how it works. When you diagnose your business in a spin or facing a difficult challenge that could put you into a spin engage the PARE formula:
Pull Power Stop what you are doing and do a reality check Assessment of your present situation.
Ailerons Neutral Do not attempt to solve anything immediately. Listen.
Rudder Opposite Noticing the direction you were turning or going when you realized something was wrong, turn 180% and push yourself into a definite action in the exact opposite direction.
Elevator Neutral Do not attempt to climb directly back in the elevation of energy and activity previously engaged toward your current goal. Instead cruise level with heightened sensitivity, intuitive sensors extended, seeking feedback from others opening the portals of your collaborative thinking mind.
Engage With your new flight plan or next level in view engage
The controls at your command to make the next move.
Once we recover to straight and level flight a relaxed and calm approach can be taken to go over all the information at hand and gather whatever else is needed to devise a new strategy, plan or team to build the new vision that is revealed to you. Then engage the plan. When your vision has cleared and your mind is on a new plane of thought with clear view of your next step, take it.
When you demand command you are in control. Keep in mind you are always in control whether you like it or not and the choices made every day are activating pressures on the controls of your life and business in ways known and unknown to you. Begin right now to develop your heightened situational awareness to help you guide your business and life upward toward success.
A spin is a great maneuver because it teaches us to remain calm in a very disorienting situation so we can recover in a new direction, but it takes a little while to get comfortable being uncomfortable. It is well worth the effort, however, because instead of dreading change we welcome it as a thrilling opportunity to learn and grow and advance more quickly than we could without it.
Now imprint the formula clearly in your mind. Discuss using it with your Master Mind group and see how you can challenge each other to use it.
PARE Spin Recovery
Pull Power back to assess your situation
Attempt no solutions yet, just neutralize control
Rudder & Redirect your attention 180% to stop inertia in present direction
Elevation changes can wait until a new vision comes into focus
Each step you take is further proof that you have command of your mind and body to direct it to work for you instead of against you. You can possess your mind. Possess your mind, command your life.
Once we follow these steps there need be no fear of falling into a spin again, because if we do we know how to recover and receive the guidance available to us to continue our flight to our destination. Perhaps more importantly practicing PARE can help us develop more skillful use of the controls at our command every day.
Enjoy your flight.
